“Today is 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment and it is also the first day of the “Women for Trump” bus tour across Minnesota. It’s a fitting reminder that having the right to vote means having the right to choose the candidate and the party for one’s self. Being a woman does not mean that one has to vote for a female candidate or a particular party. Despite what Joe Biden says, one’s gender or race is not determined by their political affiliation.
“Today, we are grateful for Republican Senator Aaron A. Sargent for authoring the first bill to extend the right to vote to women, and thankful for activists Alice Paul and Lucy Burns for pressuring Democrat President Woodrow Wilson to support women’s suffrage. It’s important to note that the19th Amendment would have gone for a vote sooner had Democrats in the Senate not filibustered it. On final passage in the Senate, 76% of Republicans supported it and 60% of Democrats opposed it.
“For the last 100 years, the Republican Party has been the party that supports women without any ideological strings attached.”
