MINNEAPOLIS – Republican Party of Minnesota Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan released the following statement:
“Over the weekend, radical Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California visited Brooklyn Center to encourage protesters to ‘get more confrontational.’ Shortly after Rep. Waters delivered her divisive speech, criminals opened fire on National Guard positions in Minneapolis, wounding two troops.
“We call upon Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison, both of whom served with Rep. Waters in the U.S. House, to condemn the Congresswoman’s incendiary remarks and issue a public statement reassuring Minnesota residents that rioting, looting, and other forms of violence will be aggressively quelled and fully prosecuted—no matter the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial.
“Democrat Reps. Dean Phillips, Betty McCollum, and Angie Craig must also asked if they support Waters’s remarks. We hold out little hope that Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar will condemn the remarks, as Omar has called for defunding the police and recently referred to the law enforcement and the National Guard personnel serving in ‘Operation Safety Net’ as a ‘military occupation.’
“Our leaders should be promoting peace within our communities, not standing idly by while outside agitators provoke further unrest. Rep. Waters’ conduct is deplorable, and our elected officials must stand up for our communities and denounce this rhetoric before this escalates further.”
