MNGOP STATEMENT ON WALZ NATIONAL GUARD CRITICISM

“Democrat Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey were clearly out of their depth and frozen in the headlights during the Minneapolis riots. Everybody who watched the press conferences saw that.

“Neither of them had the ability to get the situation under control.

“For Governor Walz to minimize the men and women who step up and leave their families to protect our state and citizens is ridiculous. Minneapolis burned until the ‘19 year old cooks’ showed up and restored order. The people that Governor Walz is denigrating now are the people who did the job he and Mayor Frey couldn’t do.

“The Republican Party of Minnesota is grateful and proud of The National Guard for providing the leadership that the DFL politicians couldn’t.”

MNGOP Statement on Dean Phillips’ PPP Hypocrisy

“Dean Phillips, the third wealthiest member of the House of Representatives, took PPP money through one of his businesses despite telling the Star Tribune that he thought it was wrong for members of Congress to take PPP money. Phillips authored the PPP bill. Phillps co-owns the Minneapolis based MyMeds Inc. which received $150,000 to $350,000 through PPP.

“MyMeds, Inc. received the loan in the shadow of Dean recently gloating to Twin Cities Business Magazine that another company he owns, Penny’s coffee, “did not secure a PPP loan…because of my principles.” Apparently, Dean’s “principles” only apply to the small companies he owns.

“Dean’s claim that he was unaware of the loan MyMeds, Inc. received rings hollow given his previous statement regarding the SBA program program that “transparency should be the least of our expectations and anything less is inexcusable.” Likewise, Dean’s financial dealings do not align with his rhetoric that “I expected members of Congress to be forthright and transparent to begin with.”

“Phillips’ MyMeds business was approved for a loan on the first day they were available. Phillips put $100,000 into MyMeds but claims he was unaware they were taking advantage of the bill he authored.

“Either Dean Phillips is so rich he can drop $100,000 into a business and forget about it or he knew exactly how to protect his investment from his perch in Congress.”

MNGOP Statement on Farmfest Senate Forum

“Today Senator Tina Smith proved yet again how out of touch she is with rural Minnesota and the agricultural sector, which is so vital to our state.

“While farmers are dealing with the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and Governor Tim Walz’s heavy-handed response to the virus, Tina Smith has been tone-deaf to the concerns and needs of farmers wanting new markets and fewer regulations; instead she champions more handouts and restrictions.

“The timing of Smith’s marijuana announcement was not an accident. She’s trying to appeal to farmers, which sadly shows how out of touch she is. Farmers want solutions; not some political stunt that distracts from the vibrancy of their businesses.

“When in Congress Jason Lewis did the heavy lifting on USMCA, and now, Tina Smith is trying to steal the credit of work she did not do. When her leadership was needed on USMCA she was nowhere to be found.

“Jason Lewis is a proven fighter for farmers and rural Minnesota. The only way Tina Smith will leave the metro is if she’s sitting in front of her laptop.”

MNGOP Statement on Schools Opening

“Democrat Governor Tim Walz continues to lead this state unilaterally, circumventing the state legislature to make decisions impacting all Minnesotans. Today the Governor exhibited another overreach of power in making decisions about our children’s education by himself. The realities of balancing parenting with employment, impact every parent in our state.

“Parents and pediatricians overwhelmingly want schools to open, and it is important we get to that goal full-time for all students. Local control is local control – not Governor Walz’s strict framework that could impede the education of our children. It is time for Governor Walz to step back from his unilateral decision-making and let those in our communities make the decisions that suit them best.

MNGOP Statement on Inappropriate Wabasha Facebook Post

“Upon further investigation today, the Republican Party of Minnesota has learned the Wabasha County Facebook page was not hacked last night, as believed by the Wabasha County Chair.  The offensive picture was unfortunately posted by a board member who has resigned effective immediately at the party’s request.  We are saddened by the vitriolic post and hope as we move forward that Republicans and Democrats alike will maintain the highest level of integrity, respect, and sensitivity.  The Wabasha County Board and MN GOP apologizes for this disappointing post.”

MNGOP Statement on Smith Endorsing Omar

“It was surprising to see Senator Tina Smith endorse Congresswoman Ilhan Omar  yesterday. Given Omar’s history of anti-Semitic remarks and recent calls to abolish capitalism and eliminate the police, Senator Smith should have shown better judgment.

“It’s time to ask: Do the other Democrats like Collin Peterson, Angie Craig, and Dean Phillips also support Congresswoman Omar too?

“Politics is politics, but Omar’s dangerous rhetoric crosses the line.”

MNGOP Statement on Special Session

“The Republican Party of Minnesota stands in support with Senate Majority Leader Gazelka and House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt in their call to open schools in the fall and for Supreme Leader Walz to end his emergency powers and work with the legislature.

“We are grateful for our Republican leaders in both chambers being willing to work across the aisle to move forward with true police reform. When we all put Minnesota families and our communities first, everyone wins.”

MNGOP Statement on Reopening Schools

“The more we learn about COVID-19, the more it becomes apparent that we have done a huge disservice to our children by shutting down schools and isolating them in their homes. Virtual learning has already had a negative impact on the social, mental, and physical well-being—we can’t let this continue into the fall.

“It is disappointing that Senator Tina Smith is content to sit idly by while Democrats refuse to announce a plan for allowing children to return to school this Fall. Her continued silence on the matter is troubling.

“This transcends politics. All parents want their kids to be happy, healthy and educated, and a consistent education is a big part of that. Students need consistency and parents need to know what to expect in the Fall. Anybody who tries to hinder that – including Senator Tina Smith – does not have our students’ and parents’ best interests in mind.”
